Anxiety Disorders Description

There are several different kinds of Anxiety Disorders and treatment is based on the type of anxiety disorder with which you struggle. Anxiety affects our emotions and the way we think and percieve the world. It also affects people physically, socially and neurologically. Because anxious symptoms can mimic other physical disorders it is always best to first seek a consultation with your primary care physicial.

Symptoms you may be experiencing: overwhelming fear; panic; feelings of doom; shaking; trembling; heart palpitations; nausea; urinary pressure; sweating; blushing; embarresment; hyperventilation; tingling; insomnia; disrupted sleep; depression; intrusive thoughts; ruminitive thoughts; hyper-alertness (hypervigilence); intense startle-reactions and fatigue.

TYPES OF ANXIETY DISORDERS:

POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER:
High levels of anxiety resulting from trauma that you have personally experienced or observed.

PANIC DISORDER:
Overwhelming high levels of anxiety, where the individual feels flooded with anxious thoughts and feelings. Often an individual will end up in the the emergency room believing they are dying or having a heart attack.

PHOBIAS:
Intense fear to an object or person that the individual takes steps to avoid.

GENERAL ANXIETY DISORDER:
Excessive worrying that feels overwhelming and which the individual feels they have no control over.

SOCIAL PHOBIA:
Fear of being humiliated, judged or embarrassed in the public arena.

OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER:
Persistent disturbing thoughts, which raise the individuals anxiety level which they than manage through ritualistic behavior i.e. excessive hand washing.

HEALTH ANXIETY (HYPOCHONDRISIS):
Preoccupation with fears of illness or disease associated with misinterpretation of physical symptoms.
